Victoria Harbour Yoga Classes Full of “Healing, Energy and Fun”
Residents looking for ways to support their mobility, strength, flexibility and mental health are encouraged to try out the many activity options that are available as members of an active aging seniors’ community. At Tapestry at Victoria Harbour, a number of residents have done just that by participating in one of several yoga classes offered weekly by CSEP-Certified Personal Trainer and Registered Yoga Instructor Fatima Rabago.
Many Victoria Harbour residents have gravitated to the weekly yoga classes finding a deep sense of fulfilment and connection as a result. By regularly participating, they have discovered or rediscovered the benefits of incorporating a regular yoga practice into their overall fitness regime.
“I’ve done yoga my entire life and I didn’t think I’d still be able to do it,” says Angie, a resident at Victoria Harbour. “But Fatima makes it so accessible and easy to really feel immersed and connected.”
Sandra, who is a long-time yoga enthusiast and fellow resident, enjoys the yoga classes at Victoria Harbour because each session is tailored to suit participant needs allowing as she says, “a chance to deflate and escape the clutter of everyday life in a mindful way.”
Classmate Heather couldn’t agree more about the benefits that come from attending Victoria Harbour’s wonderful yoga classes. “Fatima’s classes are full of healing, energy and fun,” adds Heather. “She’s found a wonderful way to make the classes really enjoyable by adapting poses and introducing props as supportive tools that help us benefit from deep therapeutic stretching.”
Fatima, who works as the community’s kinesiologist, couldn’t be more pleased with the residents’ response to her yoga classes. A life-long wellness enthusiast, she encourages everyone to participate, whether or not they have ever tried yoga.
“Some people avoid yoga because they’re concerned about being able to do the poses or keep up with others in the class,” says Fatima.
“I always encourage residents to do whatever feels right in their body on that day. I also remind them we are in a safe place where they can practice without judgement or expectation and have fun while exploring the limits of their movement.”
