Celebrating the holidays at Tapestry
No matter who we are or where we live, holiday events are important gathering times, and at Tapestry we host many events year-round that celebrate the diversity of our communities.
These thoughtfully planned events range from the pure fun of a Halloween costume party, to the sombre and reflective tone of Remembrance Day, to Oktoberfest, Diwali, Valentine’s Day and, of course, the December holidays including Christmas, Hannukah and New Year’s Eve.
“The holidays can be a lonely time for some, especially if family members are in distant locations,” says Tiffany Whelan, Director, Sales. “We love to be considered as part of our residents’ extended family and we so enjoy brightening the spirit of the holiday season with warm and wonderful events and delicious, favourite holiday treats,” she adds.
A sampling of the events planned for this holiday season include a Christmas tree trimming party complete with hot cocoa and treats, a winter craft fair featuring the work of our many talented residents, a Hanukkah celebration dinner and documentary viewing, a Tapestry choir concert presented by residents, and a PJs and pancakes breakfast from which all proceeds go to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau.
Our culinary teams truly enjoy taking things to the next level by offering our residents specialty dining options, and they are constantly challenging themselves to be more creative. This includes regular themed meals in our restaurants to celebrate different events and/or cuisines – recent examples have included a Brazilian night, a Mexican fiesta, and a 1920s “Great Gatsby” dinner.
We have also found that our residents truly enjoy learning about other cultures and new traditions.
Another unique Tapestry offering is our “Staycation” dinners. These smaller, more intimate events offer an exceptional meal in good company with creative themes that can transport residents back to a special place, time or event. Past event themes have included The Love Boat, Spring in Tuscany and James Bond Night.
At Tapestry, we align our programs and service offerings to our researched-based 7 Dimensions of Wellness, creating an environment where residents can thrive and focus on staying healthy, active and engaged.
Research has shown again and again that the “social” dimension is one of the most important for seniors’ physical and mental health.
According to Harvard Health, socialization is linked with many health benefits, including a lower risk of depression, and can also help reduce the risk of developing dementia. Studies also show that interacting with a wide range of people, beyond your usual circle of family and close friends, can lead to higher levels of physical activity and a more positive mood.
While you may be living in a home or condo and have neighbours around you, the demographics of your neighbourhood might have changed. One of the advantages of living at Tapestry is that you are in a community where your neighbours are in a similar life stage and that makes them more relatable.
At Tapestry senior living communities, we make it easy to remain connected and engaged, your way, with a myriad of opportunities such as fitness activities, book clubs, art classes, dance parties and sing-a-longs, movie nights and organized outings.
If you are a senior or the family member of a senior who is seeking greater social interaction, one of our Tapestry communities could be the answer. We have a busy agenda of upcoming events and celebrations over the holiday season that offer wonderful opportunities to gather, connect and be part of a healthy and thriving active-aging community.
Now is the perfect time to consider a move to retirement living. With winter coming you can avoid the cost and worry of winter home maintenance, and, if you move in to one of our communities before December 31, 2023 you’ll receive a $5,000 move-in incentive.
