Life at Tapestry Surpasses Expectations: Bob and Marlene Share Their Story
When asked what they love most about living at Tapestry at Wesbrook Village, Bob and Marlene are hard pressed to find a simple answer. “There are just so many things that we love about living at Tapestry that’s it’s hard to narrow it down,” says Bob, while enjoying his lunch with Marlene in the community’s beautiful Restaurant.
“We love the attention to detail, the service, the employees, the food and the variety of activities,” adds Bob. “It is clear how much Tapestry invests in delivering the experience promised to residents.”
Bob and Marlene couldn’t be happier their high expectations have been met especially given the very significant leap of faith they took moving into Wesbrook Village. These high-school sweethearts, married now for nearly 57 years, spent most of their lives in Burlington, Ontario where they worked, volunteered and raised two children, who are now successful professionals working and living in Vancouver.
In fact, Bob and Marlene didn’t even physically see the community before they arrived as one of its newest resident couples. Living more than 4,000 Km away, they depended on their children’s opinions and feedback, along with photos and videos to make their decision to relocate to the West Coast and Tapestry at Wesbrook Village.
“Our daughter, a university professor, had spent time lecturing at Tapestry (as part of the community’s Extended Learning program with UBC) and was very familiar with Wesbrook Village,” says Marlene. “We trusted feedback from both our daughter and son, who felt it would be an ideal fit for us.”
Since making the move, Bob and Marlene haven’t looked back. They love the community’s unique walkable location near Pacific Spirit Park and the fact that it is so close to their beloved children and grandchildren. They have made new friends and enjoy the community’s diverse amenities and exceptional services, including the full-service Restaurant and Pub where they enjoy most lunches and dinners. They have also started to get acquainted with the beautiful city that is now their home.
The move-in to Tapestry has been a monumental change, but for the most part, one that has gone smoothly and reaffirmed their decision to make the move when they determined that living at home was more than they wanted to manage. Their Tapestry Sales Advisor was a tremendous support, helping to ensure the move went very smoothly and that they were well taken care of when they arrived several weeks ahead of their furniture and belongings.
“What’s best about being at Tapestry is that we are close to our children and grand-children, but not reliant on them,” says Marlene. “We live independently in a beautiful community and are continuing to live full lives,”
Not surprising, remaining busy and fulfilled are important for this enchanting couple. Bob spent most of his career in Human Resources at Ford Canada and as an officer in the reserve Canadian military. Marlene dedicated 18-years as a volunteer in a long-term care facility after working as a human resources professional herself.
While both retired early and advise others to do the same if they are able, they have continued to live rich, meaningful and purposeful lives continuing with volunteer activities and helping others as is their generous nature.
As they continue to settle in at Tapestry, they look forward to trying new challenges and participating in unique activities like snow-shoeing at Cypress Mountain. “There’s a lot yet we have to do,” says Marlene. “And we’re so glad we get to do it at Tapestry!”
