Tapestry Residents Gear Up For Fit Feb
The variety of empowering fitness and wellness programs are expanding at all of our Tapestry communities and just in time for our annual Fit February or Fit Feb celebration!
In keeping with Tapestry’s focus on wellness and helping independent seniors to thrive, the team behind Tapestry’s wellness programs have created plenty of unique opportunities for our residents and employees to feel even more inspired to live an active life — with a healthy dose of competition added of course. Diverse activities and incentives are being offered at all Tapestry communities, presenting a fresh spin on the many ways residents can embrace staying active at every age. It’s the perfect way to beat the winter “blues”, stay committed to new year’s resolutions to improve one’s health and connect with likeminded friends and neighbours enjoying the opportunity to stay active, engaged and connected.
“Although Tapestry residents focus on wellness throughout the year, every February Tapestry communities “turn up the volume” on wellness to celebrate Fit Feb,” says Kim MacNeill, Wellness Manager at Tapestry at Victoria Harbour. “It provides a fun and festive opportunity for us to reinforce our commitment to wellness as a way of life that differentiates Tapestry’s award-winning focus on active aging.”
Although each Tapestry community puts its own touch on Fit Feb, all create an approach that emphasizes competition, participation and fun!
In Vancouver, Tapestry at Wesbrook Village and Tapestry at Arbutus Walk have created resident and employee teams that will compete to win by earning points through the month by participating in various events, activities and programs. This year, both communities are not only competing within their location, but are also challenging each other in a series of creative events, such as a relay race at the Richmond Olympic Oval and a bocce ball competition at the Italian Cultural Centre.
“We have a lot of fun competing with our sister community,” says Amanda Davis, Wellness Supervisor, Tapestry at Arbutus Walk. “This year, the community with the most points at the end of February will win the first ever Vancouver Tapestry Olympic trophy – and year-long bragging rights!”
In our Victoria and Etobicoke communities, residents are competing individually for points by participating in a series of Fit Feb challenges. With multiple opportunities for engagement, the competition is sure to be exciting and inspirational.
During Fit Feb, Tapestry’s Victoria community is also turning the spotlight on its very successful personal fitness training programs to encourage even more residents to take advantage of one-on-one instruction, support and encouragement.
“We have seen tremendous success with residents who have signed-up for our personalized training services,” says Fatima Rabago, Victoria Harbour’s Kinesiologist. “Residents have experienced improved fitness levels, enhanced posture, increased appetites and a generally improved feeling of overall wellness, which is just amazing to see!”
Fatima and the Victoria Wellness team are hopeful that new personal training options introduced to celebrate Fit Feb will entice even more participants to explore this customizable approach to support wellness.
