All Tapestry communities enjoy celebrating various cultural and spiritual traditions and events. Each community takes a unique approach and partners with residents to create truly memorable and authentic celebratory occasions. Tapestry at Victoria Harbour recently hosted a spectacular event to celebrate the Lunar New Year. More than 80 guests attended the colourful festivities hosted by our unique seniors’ community in the heart of Victoria, BC.

Residents and guests arrived to find the community’s beautiful Restaurant transformed into a Lunar New Year-themed space, complete with artwork, decor and dishes inspired by traditional night markets found throughout Asia.

Chef James and his culinary team offered guests a diverse sampling of popular Chinese-style Jianbing (street food) to tempt both senses and appetites. His team set up a series of immersive stations featuring a variety of dishes, including a wok and dim sum station, as well as a soup noodle and Chinese barbecue station. Each featured a variety of different garnishes and sauces.

Also featured was a station of Lunar New Year desserts, including traditional fare such as crispy fried dough, red bean soup, egg tarts and various cookies.

“Chef James and I were united in our excitement for this Lunar New Year event,” says Cameron Ballendine, Resident Services Manager. “We were both delighted to bring an authentic experience to Tapestry having been inspired by our time working in China.”

To the delight of guests, the evening included a ceremonial Red Lion Dance followed by the gifting of a Lai See (red envelope) to the Lion, a symbol encouraging good fortune for the year ahead.

Later this month, Tapestry at Wesbrook Village will host a Brazilian Mardi Gras Dinner and Dance, featuring a variety of traditional acts and authentic Brazilian cuisine prepared by the community’s talented culinary team.
