Your new start is waiting for you at Tapestry
It’s a new year and if you are looking to improve your surroundings, your health or your lifestyle (or all three!), this could be the right time for you to make a new start with a move to Tapestry.
Tiffany Whelan, Tapestry’s Director of Sales, says there are many compelling reasons why this is a good time of year to consider making the move into one of our retirement communities.
The first and most obvious is the ‘winter blues’. “The January blues – that’s a real thing,” says Tiffany. “With the colder weather, people tend to be more isolated in their own homes,” she adds.
Perhaps you don’t like driving or walking in snowy or icy conditions, and the shorter days with less daylight can mean less time to venture out. “At Tapestry, there are endless activity choices to choose from – you don’t have to step outside if you don’t want to,” says Tiffany.
There is also a vibrant community of people to get to know at Tapestry. If you are still in your own home, consider how often you really get out to visit friends, go for dinner, or attend a book club. “In each of our Tapestry communities, there are so many opportunities for socialization, and you can do as much or as little as you want. Our residents always tell us the hardest thing for them is deciding what to do each day,” says Tiffany.
“We hear from so many residents how easy it is to build connection and relationships here…although they have all lived very different lives and had different experiences, they have the common ground of being at the same stage of life,” Tiffany adds.
Winter is also a tough time of year for home maintenance. You may be responsible for clearing snow from your sidewalk, leaves can clog gutters, and windstorms can bring trees down damaging your property.
“Ask yourself, how much work am I doing in and around my home and is that how I want to spend my time?” Tiffany suggests. Tapestry can help with the cleaning, the cooking and even transportation if you no longer wish to do these things. “You can choose to spend your time doing the things you want to do, versus the things you have to do,” adds Tiffany.
For example, at Tapestry you can participate in a cooking class and be reminded of why you love cooking so much, rather than just be focused on getting three meals on the table each day. And while our suites all have fully appointed kitchens, if you need a break from cooking we’ve got you covered with delicious and nutritious meals served in our Restaurants and Pubs.
Another factor to consider is your current lifestyle and level of wellness, and how well you are set up to maintain your independence. At Tapestry, all of our programming and day-to-day activities are planned with the 7 Dimensions of Wellness in mind.
“I like to say we have everything from mild to wild,” Tiffany says. “We have diverse programming appealing to different activity levels. Adventure for one person might be a mean game of bridge, while for another it could be skydiving. Our activities are also very resident driven and we’re here to help you create new memories. If there is something you want to do that doesn’t exist, let us know!”
Sometimes when people are isolated in their homes they also aren’t as active as they used to be. “If you are looking to preserve or build your strength, balance and endurance, our in-house kinesiologists can design an individualized program for you,” Tiffany says. “That’s in addition to our daily activity offerings – from all levels of fitness classes to chair yoga and zumba, just to name a few examples.”
“Tapestry’s focus on the 7 Dimensions helps our residents maintain a healthy mind, body and spirit. That’s the key to staying fit, healthy, active and ‘firing on all cylinders’,’ which is critical in maintaining your independence,” Tiffany says.
Independent living doesn’t mean you have to live alone – you can continue to live independently in one of our Tapestry communities.
